About Michael A. Shutt

Michael A. Shutt was known in the airport consulting industry as a leader aviation professional, and problem solver. Mike was an influential aviation consultant for more than 35 years. Mike's contributions to the airport industry include the planning and engineering development of more than 40 airports in California. Those that had the opportunity to interact with Mike knew him as a gentleman and gifted professional who helped shape the airport consulting industry that exists today.

Award Description

ACA's Michael A. Shutt Award annually recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the growth, development and general safety of California airports.

Founder Recognition

Mike was one of the founders of ACA and the Board has recognized those efforts by gifting an annual award on his behalf to industry professionals.

Nomination Process

Eligibility

Anyone can nominate an individual or organization for the award.

Deadline

Nominations for the 2025 Michael A. Shutt Award must be received by the Association of California Airports (ACA) conference committee no later than August 1, 2025.

Evaluation

An ACA subcommittee will evaluate the nominees against the evaluation criteria and make a selection for the award.

Presentation

The award will be presented at the annual Association of California Airports Conference in September.

Evaluation Criteria

The Michael A. Shutt Award is designed to recognize the efforts of an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the growth and development of California airports.

Qualified Applicants: Qualified applicants can be consultants, airport sponsors, Funding agencies, and all other associated professionals working to improve and develop of California Airports.

Selection Criteria

  • Recognized as a leader in the aviation industry.
  • Known for employing innovative techniques in the solution of complex issues and problems.
  • A reputation for enhancing the relationship between airports and the community.
  • A contributor to the knowledge base of the industry.
  • Developed tools or techniques that have furthered the aviation industry.

Please provide a brief narrative statement describing this individual’s or organization’s contribution to the Association of California Airports (ACA), the award criteria that qualifies them for nomination and the specific reasons why you are nominating this candidate.

Nomination Deadline

Nominations must be received by August 1, 2025.
